UCI Track World Cup, Cali - Day 2

Published: 12 October 2012

Results - Day Two

Day two of competition had mixed fortunes for Team SWI Welsh Cycling in Cali. The Omnium was the main event of the day for the team with both Elinor Barker and Jon Mould due on the track.

World Junior Omnium silver medallist Elinor Barker began the day with the Flying Lap. Barker took to the track third, posting a time of 15.803 seconds. But in her first competition as senior rider, Elinor slipped to  8th place as her rivals took to the track. It was Isabelle King of Australia who secured the win with a time of 14.848, leading the Omnium event.

However in the second event of the day for Barker, the Points race, her luck began to change. She gained a lap after a solo effort, the first time for her to do so in competition. At the halfway mark, Elinor was leading the event. She picked up a few sprint points, but lost the lead to finish in 4th place. Combined with her Flying Lap result, Barker totalled 12 points and went into the evening session ranked 7th, but level points for 4th – 8th place.

Jon Mould was set to continue in the Omnium today, finishingin 12th position on Thursday after three events. However, due to illness he was forced to withdraw from Friday’s competition, with hope of returning for the Points Race on Saturday.
