Day 5 - BC report

Jon Mould and Owain Doull rounded off the 2011 Track National Championships with two more titles for the Welsh.

First up was Jon Mould in the Omnium event. Mould had already demonstrated his good form earlier in the Championships he set out to add a 2nd title to his 2011 resume. Jonathan Mould ended up as the national Omnium champion after a very consistent performance across the four events: he won the flying lap and the elimination race, was second in the scratch and third in the points race.

Owain Doull with his Hargroves team mate Jonathan Dibben put on an impressive and dominant display of Madison riding to win the Junior title. Winning all of sprints comfortably the two riders were untouchable throughout.

Owain Doull said: "We worked really hard in yesterday's race and the legs were heavy. We weren't sure what to expect as a lot of the other racers haven't had the last few days we have had. Luckily for us, it wasn't as aggressive as it usually is, it fell straight into our game plan. We weren't too sharp coming into the race, we were going to play it by ear and see how the first sprint goes.

"We wanted to save energy and get the changes bang on because we knew if we got the changes right it would be a lot easier. We contemplated pressing onto to see if we could get a lap but the legs were tiring up."

Sam Harrison continued his pursuit of a National title by finishing 3rd in the 1km TT . The 1km event is one of the toughest on the National programme and the event is not Harrisons specialist event. Relying on fitness and raw talent, Harrison managed to get himself into the bronze medal position with a time of 1:04.790. Following on from his pursuit silver on Thursday Harrison is looking in good form for the Omnium events in the upcoming World Cups.
