Wales Junior Programme riders will compete in the Junior Women Healthy Ageing Tour 5-8 April 2017 in The Netherlands, part of the UCI Nations’ Cup Junior.

Four Junior Women will compete in the early-season stage race. Four days of racing begins with a Time Trial on Wednesday in Leek followed by three days of road racing finishing on Saturday in Finsterwolde.

Gwenno Hughes, Elizabeth Bennett, Sophie Williams and Izzy Ellis make up the Wales Junior Programme team. Hughes, Bennett and Williams competed in the 2016 edition, with Ellis making her debut. Top British rider in the 2016 edition,  Jessica Roberts will represent Great Britain at the event. Riders will benefit from competing in an international field, experiencing racing in The Netherlands early in the year.

The international field includes teams from USA, Norway and Germany providing exposure to high level competition. The event will test the riders in many aspects of racing, bike handling, team tactics and all round fitness. Experiencing continental racing early in the season gives riders the opportunity to learn and develop as junior bike riders.

The Junior Women Healthy Ageing Tour, formerly the Energiewacht Tour, echoes the senior Tour, now in its seventh year. Great Britain Senior Academy will compete in the UCI 2.2 event. Wales' Megan Barker will compete for Great Britain, whilst Hayley Jones will ride for Team WNT Pro Cycling.
