Powys is set to host the Welsh Cycling Circuit Race Championships on Saturday 17 September, at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells.

The Royal Welsh Showground will host the 2016 Championship event, just 10 days after it welcomes the Tour of Britain stage finish to Builth Wells on Wednesday 7 September.

Anne Adams-King, chief executive officer at Welsh Cycling said: “We are pleased to see the Welsh Cycling Circuit Race Championships taking place this September. The Royal Welsh Showground offers a versatile venue for competitions across cycling disciplines, and a circuit that will challenge riders providing worthy Welsh Cycling Champions.

I welcome all our clubs and members across Wales to come and support the event, and if you’re not racing come and cheer on your fellow club members!”

Racing will begin at 9.30am for young riders, with non-championship events for Under 8s and Under 10s, an opportunity for budding young cyclists to get their first taste of racing. Youth C Championship will set off at 10.00am followed by Youth A and Bs.

The afternoon competitions will begin with Women’s Junior/Senior/Master C+ and E+ at 1.55pm. Men’s 3rd and 4th category non championship event will roll out at 3.50pm followed by the Men’s Masters C+ and E+ at 3.45pm. The Championship will conclude with the Men’s Junior and Senior Championships at 5.00pm.

With over 160 clubs and 5,900 members in Wales, the Welsh Criterium Championships offer a great opportunity for the cycling community to come together and support the event.

To be eligible for the title of Welsh Champion, riders must enter online by 11.55pm on Wednesday 7 September and fulfil the Welsh Cycling eligibility criteria. The event is an open event, so all riders are welcome to enter but only those who fulfil the criteria will be eligible to contest the Welsh Champion title.
