Elinor Barker clinches the Junior Women's Time Trial World title for 2012.

Barker completed the 15.6km course in Limburg, The Netherlands in an impressive time of 22:26.29, 35.87 seconds up on second place Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig of Denmark.

Elinor Barker, "I am ecstatic! I am really happy with my result. I have come second so many times so it feels really good to finally get a rainbow jersey. The course here in Limburg really suited me with a few climbs; the rain had eased off by the time I had got on the course, with it being windy in some sections.

I haven't had chance to speak to my family at home yet, but have received so many texts and tweets from everyone, the support has been amazing!"

Elinor was second to last off on the course, leading at both time splits to secure the rainbow jersey in Limburg. In the wet and windy conditions, Barker led from the start, 12 seconds clear of Ludwig at the first intermediate time check. She showed no signs of fatigue and at the second intermediate time check was 13 seconds up, storming through the last section to take the gold medal, and world title.

Darren Tudor, Head Coach at Welsh Cycling, "Elinor has had a fantastic year, gaining experience on the road and track. She became European Individual Pursuit and Team Pursuit Champion early on in the Summer in Portugal, and picked up a collection of medals at the World Junior Track Championships in New Zealand last month. Getting the world title in Limburg today is a great achievement for Elinor, and she should be very proud. The result will also boost Elinor’s confidence going into Friday’s road race, which will be her last event as a junior cyclist. As long as she continues to work hard she will succeed as a senior cyclist in the coming years."

In 2011, Elinor came second at the championships in Copenhagen, but in her final year as a junior cyclist she got the gold at the championships. This adds to her collection of world medals won at the Junior World Track Championships in New Zealand in August this year.
