Stage One - Vuelta al Pais Vasco

Luke Rowe took 12th place at the opener of the Vuelta al Pais Vasco. The six day World Tour race began with a 153k stage in the Basque County with seven categorised climbs.

Rowe was the first Team Sky rider across the line in 12th, with Davide Appollonio taking 21st. The rest of the Team Sky squad finished in the main group.

Sports Director Marcus Ljungqvist was happy to see the strong general classification squad come through unscathed, saying "The plan was to go for Appo if it came together for a sprint. But it was a hard day until the finish, with seven climbs, and Appo didn't quite have the legs there right at the end. Luke was up there so went for it himself."
