Wales' Manon Carpenter takes second in Women's Elite category for Madison Saracen as Rachel and Gee Atherton dominate the weekend of racing at the UCI Fort William Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup.
The British duo, riding for GT Factory Racing, took the men’s and women’s events in Scotland to lead the standings after round one.
Rachel Atherton won in a time of 5:08.846, over 10 seconds ahead of fellow Brit Manon Carpenter (Madison Saracen Downhill Team) and 11 seconds clear of third place Emmeline Ragot (Lapierre Gravity Republic).
"Fort William is ridiculously hard. I've qualified first a few times here and you can't let your guard down," Atherton told Redbull.tv having qualified fastest on Saturday.
"This is one I've never been able to win. All the way down the track, people are saying your name and it's hard to concentrate. Finally, I crossed the line here and heard cheering and not groaning."
Gee Atherton matched the achievement, overcoming Brook Macdonald (Trek World Racing) by a second, the time of 4:36.712 unmatched.
Danny Hart was the next highest placed British rider, two seconds adrift of Atherton in seventh.
"It's been awhile since I've won here. For me, it doesn't get better than this," Atherton told Redbull.tv. “It was a good, smooth run. I couldn't have asked for a better run, really."
"I'm stoked to start the World Cup series like this. Bring it on, I say."
UCI Downhill MTB World Cup Series continues 13-16 June at Val di Sole, Italy.
