The seventh Aberystwyth Cycle Festival begins on Monday 23 May, and has increased its schedule to include a total of eight days, and nine cycle related events in 2016.

A week of fringe activities lead up to an exhilarating weekend, where it will be possible to line up against some of Britain's leading cyclists, after watching them race the televised Pearl Izumi Tour Series criterium the previous day.

Starting with an off road ride with Summit Cycles at Nant yr Arian on Monday evening, the week truly gets rolling with the Watt Bike Challenge at MG's Cafe on Tuesday - tickets are limited and available here, before local cycling club Ystwyth CC host a ten mile Time Trial challenge on the Wednesday evening.

Thursday sees a Gala Evening at the National Library of Wales, where the inspirational ‘Racing Is Life - The Beryl Burton Story’ will be shown, before footage of the past historic Milk Race, and a Q&A session with our special guest. Tickets are free and available from the box office.

Friday has the thrilling Pearl Izumi Tour Series, with everything from children’s races, a Women’s only race and a Town vs Gown challenge before some of Britain’s premier cyclists battling it out around the technical layout of Aberystwyth’s town centre. 'Pedal Power on the Prom' has something for everyone, starting at 2pm and finishing in the late evening.

Not to be outdone, Saturday hosts both the fantastically exciting Conquer The Cliff downhill mountain bike race at Constitution Hill, as well as a Hill Climb Knock Out Cup. This is a new event for 2016, and will be pitting some of the crop of the Tour Series riders against all comers on the notorious 25% Cefn Llan hill in nearby Llanbadarn. With a £500 cash prize, this event will be a high paced, frenetic, animated race.

Sunday is a chance to get out of town and stretch the legs on one of four stunningly beautiful routes around Ceredigion on the Continental Welsh Wild West Sportive, starting at 8.00am, it has some of the most spectacular routes in the UK. Riders can choose from 26, 41, 70 or 114 miles, and enjoy well stocked feed stations and full tech support.

Aberystwyth Cycle Fest has partnered with the Wales Air Ambulance Service as the official sportive charity, and those wishing to fundraise by participating in the event, can do so by ticking the ‘Just Giving’ box on the registration form.

The festival is also offering GoMTB children’s sessions on Tuesday 31st May at Blaendolau Sports Centre. This will give all the children who rode at Friday’s Tour Series race, the chance to again cycle in a safe environment in the Aberystwyth area.
