The Welsh MTB XC Series (WMBS) returns for 2015 with four events, with the 2015 Welsh MTB XC Championships confirmed for Sunday 10 May.
The series opener is at Pembrey Country Park, near Llanelli, on 8 March 2015. This all-weather location is currently hosting the Pembrey Winter XC Series organised by Matthew Page of A Cycling, promoter of the popular Battle on the Beach. The courses are fast and fun, and have been given the thumbs-up by the riders, with their short, sharp, sandy climbs and descents and roller coaster single-track. The WMBS opener incorporates the final round of the Pembrey Winter Series.
Round 2 returns to the RWAS Showground at Llanelwedd in Mid Wales on 26 April 2015, with an additional challenging kilometre promised, by Dave Evans at Cycle-Tec, for this punchy course.
Then its north to Coed y Brenin (Maesgwm side), near Dolgellau, on 10 May 2015 for Round 3 and the 2015 Welsh MTB XC Championships, jointly hosted by Clwb Beicio Mynydd Dyffryn Conwy and Dreigiau Coed y Brenin; another technical and testing course will be worthy of Championship status. If you wish to contest the Welsh Championships please remember that entries must be received by the closing date and you must meet the Welsh eligibility criteria set out in the Welsh Cycling Bylaws. There is entry on the day for the WMBS event only.
The series concludes on 12 July 2015 at Bwlch Nant yr Arian near Aberystwyth. The West Wales Cycle Racing Team is already working with Natural Resources Wales to add some new single track and take riders off the long forestry road drag between the Italian Job and the Drunken Druid.
All the events are sanctioned by British and Welsh Cycling and will have a computerised results service and professional first aid cover. British Cycling ranking points will be awarded to those with valid racing licences. Please note that there will be a Masters category in the series but points will be awarded at the next lowest points band to expert and sport licence holders. Overall series trophies will be presented at the final event; all four rounds to count.
