The Welsh Cycling Project 2018 Mountain Bike coaching sessions got off to a great start across Wales. Youth A and B riders took to courses in Cwmcarn, Brechfa and Coed-y-Brenin to gain more experience of riding these Welsh courses.

Anthony O’Boyle led the session in Cwmcarn and is looking forward to welcoming more riders in the coming weeks.

“We started out from the car park at the Cwmcarn Visitor Centre and headed up the Twrch trail. When we arrived at the top of the trail, I led the riders on a 1.5km loop, followed by a timed effort. We will do the effort every four weeks to monitor progress of the riders attending. By doing this we were focussing on descending and tight switchbacks with some climbing for future sessions.

The next session, Tuesday 30 April, we will be focussing on climbing and gear selection. In week three, Tuesday 7 May, we will be working on descending and forward planning. Week four, Tuesday 14 May will be time trial with cornering and braking, with week five Tuesday 21 May, looking at descending.

The course at Cwmcarn is very good can be quite challenging. It is very hard on the forearms with some steep climbs and fun filled fast descents.”
