April saw the meeting of our first ever Welsh Cycling Steering Group. Comprising of members between the age of 14-21, the role of the group is to challenge Welsh Cycling, giving us the views of young people involved in the sport.

We were grateful for the support of Keira Davies, a Cardiff Metropolitan University student and a Platinum Young Ambassador. Keira brought her experience and enthusiasm to the table and the corridor. Some innovative Ice Breakers set the scene and set the mood for the day.

Discussions throughout the day looked at Safeguarding from a young person’s perspective and offers for Young Volunteers among others. The group will be meeting three to four times a year to further develop their ideas, but in the short term the next steps will involve meeting with their Regional Cycling Development Officers.

Dan Coast, South Wales Cycling Development Officer said: "It’s great to have the input from so many young people who are obviously passionate about our sport and keen to make a real difference and shape the future of our work across wales. It has been so inspiring to hear about the many different ideas they have and our development team look forward to making these ideas come to life very soon."

It is still early days for the Steering Group, but they will be promoting themselves and the work that they do.
