Newport Cycle Speedway Club has completed the Go-Ride Clubmark accreditation, ensuring more opportunities for young people to get into cycling in Wales.

Anne Adams-King Chief Executive at Welsh Cycling presented Club Secretary, Colin Simmons with the certificate at a club training session at Newport International Sports Village.

“It’s great to see another club in Wales providing opportunities for young people to get in to cycling in a safe environment. Newport Cycle Speedway Club members are successful in the Elite Cycle Speedway leagues, and it is great to see younger members flourish and enjoy taking part in cycle sport. ”

The club have spent the winter ensuring they have the correct policies and procedures in place, developing links with local schools to create a sustainable pathway to encourage more children into Cycle Speedway. The club took part in the Velothon Wales Inspire day that saw almost 100 pupils from South East Wales get a taste of Cycle Speedway and other disciplines at Wales National Velodrome in Newport.

The Go-Ride programme provides a fun and safe way to introduce young riders to the world of cycle sport and provides a platform to improve bike handling skills. Getting involved with a local Go-Ride Club is easy, find your nearest club here.
