Gower Riders are set to host the 2016 Welsh Cycling Cyclo-Cross Championships on Sunday 4 December, at Singleton Park, Swansea.

The venue is set inside Singleton Park, which offers acres of green space and views of Swansea Bay. The park will be utilised by Gower Riders to create a challenging cyclo-cross course worthy of champions.

Gower Riders were awarded Welsh Cycling Go Ride Club of the Year in October, and hosted the Welsh Cyclo Cross League at Parc Melin Mynach earlier this month.

Kevin Rees, Club Secretary said: “Gower Riders are delighted to host the Welsh Cyclo-Cross Championships in Swansea, this is a great opportunity for the club and for cycling in the Swansea area.

“The course in Singleton Park promises to be a true Championship course with something to suit all types of riders. The event will include an area for trade stands with a number already signed up.”

Racing will begin at 10.00am for young riders, with non-championship events for Under 8s and Under 10s, an opportunity for budding young cyclists to get their first taste of racing. Under 12s Championship will set off at 10.30am followed by Under 14s and 16s. There will be an Adult Go-Cross race at 11.50am, a fun race to get all involved in racing.

The afternoon competitions will begin with Junior Women and Men/Senior Women/Master C+ and E+ at 12.45pm. The Senior Men’s Championship will roll out at 2.00pm.

Anne Adams-King, chief executive officer at Welsh Cycling said: “It’s great to see Gower Riders, one of our Go-Ride Clubs, promoting the Championship event in Swansea. Cyclo-Cross has continued to grow, with many families taking part in the 2016 League together.

“I welcome all our clubs and members across Wales to come and support the event, and if you’re not racing come and cheer on your fellow club members!”

With over 170 clubs and 6,000 members in Wales, the Welsh Cycling Cyclo-Cross Championships offer a great opportunity for the cycling community to come together and support the event.

To be eligible for the title of Welsh Champion, riders must enter online by 11.59pm on Sunday 20 November and fulfil the Welsh Cycling eligibility criteria. The event is an open event, so all riders are welcome to enter but only those who fulfil the criteria will be eligible to contest the Welsh Champion title.
