The Robert Hobbs Memorial Road Race returns to Carmarthenshire later this month, with a challenging course that provides something for everyone.

The race was first held in 1992 following Robert’s tragic accident in 1991. For 10 years the race built momentum becoming a 2 day Premier Calendar event attracting riders from all over the UK, Ireland and France.

Previous winners include Welsh cyclists Matt Postle, Matt Beckett, Julian Winn, Anthony Malarczyk and Simon Bray along with English riders Mark Lovatt , Mark McKay, Jeremy Hunt and Phil Collins from Ireland. The 2014 winner was Poland's Marcin Białobłocki.

This year the race will be held on Sunday 31 May starting and finishing in Carmarthen. The race will lap around Llandeilo and Towy Valley, a total of 3 laps of 20.5 miles followed by once up through the village of Gelli Aur, before returning to Carmarthen for the finish.

Aled Jones, the event organiser and Robert’s brother in-law, said: ‘The course provides something for all,  comprising of two circuits. The race is 90 miles long and is a National B event. We would very much like to see a full field for the race and get the race back to what it was.’
