The original Tumble Mountain Sportive returns on Saturday 8 August with routes for all abilities.
A new 50 mile event to the Abergavenny Sportives will be the Iron Mountain 50 Sportif which will take in the Iron Mountain shortly after the start. In the past the Iron Mountain (Tumble climb) has only been reserved for the endurance riders who took on the 100 mile event. Now in the 50 with the Tumble climb out of the way you can relax in the knowledge that you have conquered the hardest climb of the route and the rest of the Brecon Beacons/Black Mountains will be a piece of cake.
After the success of the 2014 Women’sChampionship Sportive we have also decided to run a women’s only ride over a similar course to last year.
Anybody will testify that the National Road Race Championships course used in 2009 and ridden by Tour de France stars Sir Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome, Mark Cavendish and Geraint Thomas proved a great challenge for everyone. Now you can try either part or all of this excellent course by joining the thousands of other participants at the Iron Mountain Sportif on Saturday August 8.
The Sportif is a centrepiece of the Abergavenny Festival of Cycling and attracts riders from across the country to enjoy the Cyclist's Playground of South East Wales, the challenging climbs but most importantly the breathtaking scenery on roads marshalled from start to finish and with some of the best facilities of any Sportif in the UK.
The course takes in three routes - the Gold, Silver and Bronze rides - that vary in length from one hundred miles to fifty and 25 miles.
Riders who would like a serious challenge can try the Gold ride that takes in the famous Tumble Mountain that has seen even our best athletes puff and pant as they neared the summit of the 1,500 metre, three-miles long climb.
The Silver route takes riders from Abergavenny through Usk to Monmouth and back to Abergavenny along the first fifty miles stretch of the Nationals course.
Meanwhile, the Bronze route is designed specifically for families and friends to enjoy. It is a lovely out from Abergavenny and towards Usk before turning back to town.
All routes will have feed stations while there are showers and toilet facilities in Bailey Park, Abergavennny, which will also be hosting a Fun Day throughout the afternoon. On completion all participants will receive a certificate to commemorate their memorable ride, maps for the three courses and further information for the rides and online entry is available here.
