Welsh Cycling welcome new youth riders to attend U12 Track Cycling Improver sessions at Wales National Velodrome, Newport. A four-week block for newcomers will commence on Wednesday 22 January 2014. 

With a number of riders progressing from the U12 Track Cycling Improver sessions into Track League & Thursday SQT sessions we now have a number of spaces available for young riders wishing to take part in this skills and endurance based session. Sessions are aimed at Under 12s, but we welcome applications from athletes up to 16 years.

The U12 Track Cycling Improver sessions take place at Wales National Velodrome, Newport between 6pm and 8pm on Wednesday evenings.

To be eligible to attend these sessions, youth riders must meet the following criteria:

  • Aged between 10-16 Years
  • Experience of riding fixed wheel with attendance in at least 1 indoor track session.
  • British Cycling member
  • Eligible for Welsh team selection (Resident in Wales for at least 5 years, born in Wales or parent born in Wales)

Riders must be able and feel confident with the following prerequisites.

Requisite Skills

  • Ride blue line
  • Ride a pace line safely & ‘on a wheel’
  • Ride top of track

Physical

  • To be able to ride 10 minutes at race pace

Riders who are expecting to compete in the following events: 

  • Maindy Mini League
  • Icebreakers Series 
  • Newport Track League

Entries will be approved following consultation from the lead coaches which will require riders' parents to complete a short questionnaire on the rider’s suitability for the session. This will be available upon entry.
