Welsh Cycling today announce that USN (Ultimate Sports Nutrition) will be the headline sponsor of the 2013 Welsh Cycling Awards. The awards ceremony, hosted by ITV Wales’ Nick Hartley will be held at the Village Hotel, Cardiff on Friday 4 October and will recognise the efforts and achievements of volunteers, clubs, coaches and cyclists in Wales.

USN (Ultimate Sports Nutrition), the sports nutrition and supplement brand, will extend their support of cycling in Wales through sponsorship of the 2013 Welsh Cycling Awards.

Commenting on the event, Jason Oakley, Managing Director of USN UK, said:

"After a successful first season for Team USN and Welsh Cycling, the 2013 Welsh Cycling Awards is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the individual and team performances over the past year, as well as the growth in participation in cycle sport all across Wales. The awards will also highlight the potential success of the team and Welsh Cycling programme in the upcoming UCI Track World Cup and Commonwealth Games."

A total of 13 awards are up for grabs, including a Lifetime Contribution Award to recognise individuals who have made a long term commitment to the sport.

Winners will be selected by an expert panel from the sporting community including Sport Wales, British Cycling and Media Wales.

There has been a surge in participation in the sport over the last twelve months, with a 25% increase in cycling clubs affiliated to Welsh Cycling and an increase in membership figures since the success of Welsh riders Geraint Thomas MBE and Mark Colbourne MBE at the London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Welsh Cycling will reflect on the achievements of its’ most successful athletes including Becky James’ double world championship titles, Geraint Thomas’ heroic performance at the 100th edition of the Tour de France  and Elinor Barker’s seamless transition from Junior to Senior World Champion. The winter of 2012 also saw Wales compete in the UCI Track World Cups, supported by USN and resulting in multiple medal success for the riders.

Team USN athlete Jon Mould appreciates the work of the Welsh cycling community:

“Organisers, officials and volunteers spend a lot of time putting on events for people like me to take part in. It’s great USN will be supporting the event to celebrate achievements across Wales and say thanks to those behind the scenes.”

The time, effort and dedication of the hundreds of volunteers, coaches and officials will also be recognised at the celebratory event rewarding those who go the extra mile and make a difference to the sport.

There are still opportunities for companies to support the event, either as an official sponsor or through individual award sponsorship, benefiting from the media interest that the event will generate across Wales and the wider cycling community, and to those in attendance on the night.

Welsh Cycling is accepting award nominations until Sunday 1 September 2013. More information and nomination forms can be found at www.welshcycling.co.uk.
