Dozens of riders have been lining up at fun and friendly Go-MTB races taking place across south Wales over the summer designed for riders of all ages and abilities.

The events are for anyone with an interest in mountain biking, from first-time racers looking to try a taste of competition on beginner-friendly courses, to more experienced riders wanting to test their speed.

Races are run by experienced mountain bikers from local clubs who can offer advice and support to anyone looking to get into the sport, including Maindy Flyers and QDOS cycle racing.

The final of the Maindy Flyers’ events takes place tonight at Castle Coch, in Tongwynlais, near Cardiff with sign-on from 6pm.

Racing is focused on having fun and numbers have been growing week on week, explain Maindy organisers Paul Graham and Jules Beere: “We’re expecting an even bigger turnout this week to make racing even more exciting,” they said.

“It would be great to see more riders in the U14 and U16 categories to give the first-round winners a run for their money.

“Ultimately we’d like to extend special thanks to everyone who has helped us to run the event, join in the racing or cheer on the riders from the trail side. It all provides a great atmosphere for a fun evening’s racing.”

A further Friday-evening series will be run by QDOS Racing from August to September, at Chepstow Racecourse and Celtic Manor, bringing more opportunities for all U16’s to have a go at racing, as well as experienced juniors and adults and those who are new to the sport.

A mid-week series has also set in motion in Builth Wells on Wednesday evenings, a joint contribution between Red Kite Events and local bike event support and repair specialists, Cycle-Tec.

Offering fun and rolling courses for youth and adults of all abilities, they run alternatively at the Royal Welsh Showground and Coed Trallwm, Abergwesyn, on various dates until August.

A mid-week series has begun in Builth Wells, a joint contribution between local cycle store Cycle-Tec, and Red Kite Events with events taking place on Wednesday evenings at the Royal Welsh Showground and Coed Trallwm, until August.

Riders don’t need to attend every event to give racing a try. Newcomers and experienced riders are welcome at every race, with full facilities, parking and lots of advice and support on hand from experienced cyclists.
