Are you keen to organise races but need some experience? Welsh Cycling has teamed up with Fully Sussed to offer a chance to learn from some of the most experienced race organisers in Wales.

Jay and Maddie Horton from Fully Sussed will support Welsh Cycling to organise the 2013 Welsh Mountain Bike series, comprising four races from February to May.

Fully Sussed is a Mountain Bike Academy, set up by Jay and Maddie to offer skills courses and led rides to keen MTB enthusiasts. Prolific racers, and now race organisers, the duo have an impressive career history in solo and pairs racing including being European and UK Champions.

The Fully Sussed team will run the Welsh MTB Series race weekends, including course set-up and take-down, signing-on, race results, commentary and a myriad of other exciting jobs that have to be done over the course of the weekend to make it a successful event.

In addition, they are inviting local organisers who are keen to get some experience of running an event, to join them.

Volunteers will have a chance to learn how to set-up a safe and skillful MTB course, the equipment involved, what it takes to co-ordinate event logistics, manage race timing and support, as well as develop event management and organisation skills.

It is hoped volunteers will take up the opportunity with a view to taking on more responsibility for a round of the series in 2014.

Welsh Cycling MTB Coach, Scott Bugden, says it's an opportunity to learn from the very best: “It’s great to have Jay and Maddie on board to run the weekend’s racing for us.

"We have been trying over the last few years to develop the series so that it is sustainable and this is a fantastic opportunity for keen local organisers to help run each round and gain invaluable experience.

"I hope that it will give local clubs or individual volunteers the confidence that they need to be able to take a greater role in a round of the 2014 series.”

Those keen to learn from two of the best and most experienced MTB race organisers in the country, should e-mail scott.bugden@welshcycling.co.uk stating which round you would be available for.

Volunteers are required across all capacities in the lead up to and during the events, and there are four oppportunities to get involved.  Anyone interested are encouraged to get in touch with Scott.

The list of dates and venues are as follows:
Feb 10th - TBC (South Wales)
March 3rd  - Coed y Brenin
April 21st - Fforest Fields
May 19th - Margam Park

Further opportunities for race organisers across other disciplines, including track and road, will be available at a series of workshops being planned by Welsh Cycling for next year.

Race organisers looking for help or support are encouraged to get in touch with Welsh Cycling.
