Building on the success of Welsh cyclists in recent months, Geraint Thomas and Nicole Cooke's Olympic performances and more recently Luke Rowe at the Tour of Britain, the future looks exceptionally bright for Wales' young cyclists.

This weekend, a very young Welsh youth team, comprising of Rhys Britton, Tomos Owens, Joe Wiltshire, Joe Holt, Emily Haycox, Jess Roberts and Meg Barker took part in the annual Inter Regional Track Championships in Newport, as part of Wales’ 2018 Project Programme.

Gaining invaluable experience with some exceptionally exciting and tough races, most notably the Madison. Both boys and girls teams rode well, always being in the mix, and rubbing shoulders with riders 2-3 yrs their elder, with the boys team getting stronger as the race went on.  At a pivotal point in the race with Team Wales in contention for a win, a crash caused the race to be neutralised, and brought the other teams back into the race.

The young Welsh team performed at their highest level, and rode every race with great enthusiasm and positive attitude and were rewarded with 4 personal bests; highlights include a fabulous win in the girls points race, 2nd girls team sprint, finals girls keirin, 4th girls sprint, 2nd girls team pursuit, and not to be outdone, the boys rode strongly in both the team sprint and team pursuit, keirin, and madison.

The future looks bright for Welsh cyclists!
