Elinor Barker took gold in the Junior Women's Individual Pursuit on the first day of competition at the U23/Junior European Track Championships in Anadia, Portugal.

Elinor qualified fastest in the morning with a time of 2:25.725, a personal best. Fellow Welsh rider Amy Roberts posted a time of 2:30.560, also a personal best putting her in fifth place, just missing out on a medal ride.

Elinor faced German rider Anna Knauer in the final, and claimed the European title by almost three tenths of a second with a time of 2:28.189.

Elinor and Amy will compete in the Junior Women's Team Pursuit on Wednesday with Lucy Garner.
