Newport CSC defeat Hellingly Lions

Newport (dig it landscapes ) Cycle speedway team defeated Eastbourne team Hellingly Lions in a South and South Wales division 1 meeting at Newports sports village by a convincing 99 79 scoreline.

The home team fell fowl of the match referee twice in the first 5 heats, but the team then got into there stride with impressive wins from Jack Harrold and 2 consecutive wins for current British under 19s and Welsh open champion Mark Carmichael to lead at half time by 8 points.

Newports manager gave some valuble first team experience to Simon Bendon, Joe Lewis and Ryan Evans all impressed with Lewis winning the sponsors man of the match award for his 2 wins and 2 second places.

The sussex outfit tried hard but were no match for Newport who remain in second spot in division 1.

Newports division 2 team recorded a fine 97 45 win with Dean Bonnici Jacob Soper and Kevin Greaves all scoring 4 ride maximums, young Lee Bonnici also impressed along with welsh ladies champion Rebecca Davies.
