Olympian Ron Stretton passed away on Monday 12 November after a long battle with cancer; he had been in palliative care for the previous two weeks.

Ron was an excellent track rider and short distance time trialist. He also showed is potential for road racing by winning or being placed in many major local races. Ron represented Great Britain at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics winning a Bronze medal in the team pursuit, in the days when British Olympic medals were a rarity.

Ron emigrated to Canada in July 1955 but remained loyal and long time member of the Norwood Paragon CC. He was unable to make the long trip to England to celebrate the club’s Centenary in 2004 due to poor health.

Ron was survived by his wife and three daughters. There will be no funeral or memorial services just a graveside family gathering.

British Cycling would like to extend its sincere condolences to Ron's family at this sad time.
