We are fast approaching the closing dates for both the BC Yorkshire Regional Championships and the National Men’s 400m Championships at the Open meeting on Sunday 22nd July at Roundhay Park grass track in Leeds.

Entries are coming in but we really want to encourage women riders to enter and we are happy to put on a separate omnium event if we get enough entering. We are using the BC online entry system so get out on line and get your entries in before it’s too late.

The Yorkshire Regional Champs is suitable for all age categories including children so get your entries in as the closing date is Monday 25th July. Check out the online entry system at BC as there is no entry on the day: WRTL Event Entry

For the National Men’s/Open event, we are running additional events so even if you don’t want to compete in the National part, there are plenty of other events to ride. Entry details as per the link above and the closing date is Sunday 24th July There is also a national children’s grass track competition in the morning and entry forms can be obtained from: mandyparker2@ntlworld.com. Again this is pre entry only with the closing date of Sunday 24th June – just get in touch for more info.

Finally, don’t forget the Open event at Oliver’s Mount Scarborough on the 14th July with a full afternoon of grass track racing for all ages as part of the Scarborough festival of Cycling.

The track league is now well into the new season and is enjoying bumper numbers of riders from the under 12’s on freewheel bikes to older riders on fixed wheel track bikes.

After the low numbers in the 90’s we are now seeing over 40 under 12’s riding every week and over 35 fixed wheel riders battling it out in the usual variety of track events from sprints to handicaps to devil’s. The fixed wheelers are also arguing over who acts as the derny for the Keirin for the Under 12 riders, last week Joe Moses won the argument and this week it was Lewis Meadows. The only thing missing was the pretend motorbike noises.

The recent monsoon has affected the track but work is ongoing to improve it for the national. We are now allowed to run further in which has allowed us to run meetings when before we would have cancelled. This is solely due to the fantastic Roundhay Park team of Shaun Gregory, Estate Manager and John Roebuck, Head Gardener, who continue to support us.
