Location: Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton
Event: 16 May 2012

The evening’s racing was dedicated to Rachel Lewis, a very active member of the club who sadly passed away last year after a hard fought battle with cancer. All entry fees have been donated to charity. There were also prizes for selected races donated by husband Mark and presented by sons Adam and Matty.

Racing started with the customary enthusiasm of the freewheeler competitors with Alice Hopkins (Wheelers) taking first place in the B sprint handicap and brothers Joe and Adam Phillips making their presence felt in the A races. The highlight of the freewheeler events was the Rachel Lewis 2 lap handicap with cash prizes for the first three places with Will Perry first, Alex Thomson second and Ed Pibworth third.

Mid Shropshire Wheelers put in some good performances in the youth races with some spirited riding from Ewan Grivell-Mellor and Bethany Coupland collecting some valuable points. Meanwhile Wheeler Ben Hardwick took first in the Devil with Tomos Owens (Brooks Cycles) second and Ewan third.

The highlight of the evening was once again the last race; the Rachel Lewis 22 lap handicap. Here Mark put up prizes for the first three places and an additional prize for the first female. The race also included an intermediate sprint with first place taken by Steve Wilkinson (Lichfield City CC) and second (and his best performance to date) Wheeler Carl Hardwick.

Excitement filled the stadium as the riders entered their final lap all racing furiously to the finishing line but it was Adam Lewis who took first place just ahead of Aaron Casely (Cycleshack) with Lichfield’s Jacob Kelly in third place. The first female prize was taken in style by another Lichfield rider Isabelle Clarke.
