Wolverhampton Wheelers Track League

Although the ‘Sprint’ night proved to be windy, this did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the athletes taking part. As usual, things started to hot up in the Freewheeler two lap Block Handicap with Claire Fielding taking first place followed by Sam Jones and Alice Hopkins, whereas the Devil went to the ever faster Matt Lewis with Georgia Hilleard second and Rebecca Simmons third.
Meanwhile in Senior B, Andy Jones was demonstrating that experience may well triumph over youth by winning the eight lap Scratch and picking up valuable points elsewhere. Junior rider, Josh Burke, took first place in the Sprint Final with Ian Evans (Halesowen) second and Tim Metcalfe third. The Senior A Scratch was led by youth rider Adam Lewis for most of the race only to be beaten into fifth place at the end with Jack Hibberd taking first, Richard Walkerdine second and Jess Wieckowski third. The Sprint Final was more productive for Adam with a third place, first going once more to Jack and second once more to Richard.
A larger Youth field this week produced some more competitive racing with James Ireson taking the Block Handicap. However, after this it came down to Charlotte Broughton, Jack Escritt and Emily Nelson trading the first three places throughout their races with the result of the Final Sprint in the same order. There were no Youth riders in the Intermediate Sprint of the 10 km Handicap this week but no prizes for guessing who took first place hear. Andy had to be satisfied with fourth place overall with first place going to Jack Hibberd, second Jess Wieckowski and third Richard Walkerdine.
