From 11am yesterday it took just 25 minutes for tickets for all key sessions at the UCI Track World Cup Glasgow to sell out, a response hailed by British Cycling as the strongest ever for an event it has delivered in the UK.

November’s UCI Track World Cup in Glasgow will be the inaugural international cycling event at the new Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome that will play host to the cycling events at the Commonwealth Games in 2014. The sell out of tickets to the general public follows an equally swift response to the pre-sale of an allocation of tickets to British Cycling Members last week that also took less than 24 hours to sell out all sessions of the event from Friday night though to the conclusion of the event on Sunday.

Speaking of their delight at the response from the public to the opportunity to be part of the international debut of Glasgow's latest sporting landmark, Chair of Glasgow Life and the Executive Member for the Commonwealth Games, Councillor Archie Graham, said: "We always expected demand for tickets to be high for the Track Cycling World Cup but to sell out all but one session in just under an hour is a fantastic result and shows just why we are one of the world's leading destinations for sporting events. We now can't wait for the action to get underway and for the world's best cyclists to take to the track at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome for the first time."

Cycle Sport and Membership director of British Cycling Jonny Clay said: "With the profile of British Cycling on an all time high after the Olympics in London we were always confident that we'd fill the venue in Glasgow for the first international track cycling event in the UK after the Games. However, the response this morning exceeded our own expectations and it's clear that the sport will get a huge welcome in Glasgow later this year.

We hope to reward their enthusiasm for the sport with a great event to celebrate the new venue in Glasgow, for those who've missed out, we'll have coverage on the BBC to ensure that the widest possible audience see the venue in action."

Once final venue capacity is confirmed and competitor numbers known, a handful of tickets may yet be released closer to the event and these are sure to be hotly sought after. However, those who've missed out will have another opportunity to get their fill of track racing action as the National Cycling Centre in Manchester plays host to the British Cycling Senior National Track Championships this September, for which tickets will go on sale this Friday 24th August at 1pm via Ticketmaster.
