Neah Evans and Megan Barker ensured the pattern of two Tissot UCI Track World Cup medals per day continued with respective podium finishes in the omnium and scratch.

After a morning which saw Jack Carlin, Joe Truman and Katy Marchant miss out on progression to the finals of men’s sprint and women’s keirin, the endurance riders followed this up in the evening session with a silver and a bronze to take Britain’s overall medal tally in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines to six.

Brilliant Barker bags another silver

Barker – the younger sister of fellow British Cycling rider Elinor – was among a classy field in the scratch race and faced a tall order to force her way onto the podium.

But the Welsh rider was superb throughout, only finishing second to experienced Australian Ashlee Ankudinoff in the 40-lap race.

Daria Pikulik of Poland came in third ahead of Italian Rachele Barbieri.

It is another excellent display from Barker, who is starting to feel at home on the senior stage after excelling at youth level and being the model of consistency on the domestic stage in recent times.

Evans back on the podium after omnium showing

Barker’s medal was soon followed by Evans’ second piece of silverware on what has been an impressive individual showing for her.

Faced with the likes of Kirsten Wild, Amalie Dideriksen and Letizia Paternoster, the Scot powered to bronze behind Wild and Paternoster for the first and only non-silver British medal of the weekend.

Evans began the day in the scratch race, where she placed seventh, before following this up with an impressive runner-up spot in the tempo.

Fifth in the elimination left her third overall behind Wild and Paterhoster, and she consolidated this spot with a strong effort in the always-entertaining points race to add a bronze to her impressive Madison silver on Saturday with Emily Kay.

Stewart, Wood and sprinters edged out

Mark Stewart and Ollie Wood, both with individual silvers in the bag, just missed out on a team medal as they placed fourth in the men’s Madison.

Earlier in the day, Joe Truman and Jack Carlin progressed to the quarter-finals of the sprint, but Carlin came up against fearsome Australian Matthew Glaetzer, who won two races from two en route to glory. Truman, meanwhile, was beaten by Polish rider Mateusz Rudyk.

And Katy Marchant could not mount a successful silverware challenge in the keirin, coming second in her repechage following a third-place finish in the opening round.

Today’s double followed up similar efforts on both Friday’s opening day of action and Saturday’s middle day.
The men’s team pursuit claimed silver on Friday along with Stewart sealing individual points silver, before second-place finishes on Saturday in the women’s Madison (Kay and Evans) and men’s omnium (Wood).
