Tickets for the TISSOT UCI Track Cycling World Cup in London go on general sale tomorrow (Tuesday 6 March), with over 3,500 tickets already having been snapped up by British Cycling members and those who signed up for early bird access.

The event, which will bring together the world’s best track cyclists and give nations an opportunity to register qualifying points for Tokyo 2020, will take place at the Lee Valley Velopark between December 14 and 16.

In its relatively short history, the venue has already played host to countless memorable moments of British success at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, and Laura Kenny, who won double Olympic gold in 2012 and the omnium title in 2016, believes that a vocal home crowd will lead to more British medals.

She says:

“Lee Valley Velopark holds so many great memories for me, as it does for quite a few British riders. Having won Olympic and world titles there in the past, there is always a great sense of anticipation over being able to compete there again, and a big part of that is the home crowd.

“A home world cup is always special, and returning to a venue which is so steeped in history will be a fantastic experience for riders and spectators.”

The Great Britain Cycling Team has won a combined total of eight gold medals at the last two world cups held on British soil, while the team carried on their momentum from the most recent world cup series at last weekend’s UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands.

The men’s quartet won the team pursuit title for the first time since 2012, while Katie Archibald and Emily Nelson claimed women’s Madison gold with a dominant performance on Saturday evening. There were silver medals for the women’s team pursuit and men’s team sprint squads, while Jack Carlin earned a fantastic individual sprint silver and Mark Stewart took home bronze in the men’s points race.

Tickets go on general sale from 2pm tomorrow, and further information and details on how to purchase is available at www.trackworldcup.co.uk. You can also join the official Facebook page for the event.
