Great Britain Cycling Team head coach, Iain Dyer, believes that next month’s 2017 British Cycling National Track Championships will be the ‘ideal’ opportunity for spectators to watch the country’s most exciting developing talents compete against some of the sport’s household names.

Ticket sales for the championships, which take place at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester from January 27-29, have now exceeded 10,000, with the Saturday evening and Sunday evening sessions selling out completely.

Limited numbers of tickets still remain for other sessions, including Friday evening, during which the men’s and women’s individual pursuits, women’s sprint and men’s keirin titles will be decided.

Team pursuit

In previous years, the championships have proved a springboard for developing athletes to make their mark in the sport, with the likes of Katy Marchant, Callum Skinner and Kadeena Cox all claiming national champions’ jerseys in the last four-year cycle, before going on to win medals in Rio last summer.

Looking ahead to the championships, Dyer said:

“It’s great to see tickets for the National Track Championships proving so popular. Traditionally, this is an event at which our developing riders are able to put a real marker down and see just how they are progressing against some of the Great Britain Cycling Team’s most experienced performers.

“This, coupled with the fact that we are now in the very early stages of another Olympic cycle, make these championships an ideal time for spectators to watch potential stars of the future, along with some of those riders they will have cheered to victory in Rio.”

New talent

Tickets also remain for the daytime sessions on both Friday and Saturday. Friday will see the finals of the para-cycling time trials, the women’s sprint quarter-finals and qualifying for the men’s keirin and men’s and women’s individual pursuits.

During the Saturday daytime session, riders will compete in the finals of the para-cycling pursuits, men’s sprint quarter-finals and qualifying rounds for the women’s team pursuit, women’s scratch and men’s points race.
