Ones to watch

Women’s endurance

Katie Archibald will arrive at her home track an international superstar after her superb season in which she won Olympic gold in Rio with her fellow team pursuit riders and followed it up with two European titles and a silver medal from last week’s championships in Paris.

Winner of the omnium

A strong international line up of female endurance riders, including Kirsten Wild of the Netherlands and Belgium’s Lotte Kopecky will make for high quality competition for Archibald and the British women.

The Scottish rider said that she was looking forward to competing on home turf and hoped the local supporters would enjoy the spectacle.

"I’m really looking forward to it, especially for such a prestigious event; first round of the world cup series and the first time that a world cup will have a women’s Madison so I’m hoping that the home crowd will enjoy it."

Joining Archibald in the women’s endurance line up for the Great Britain Cycling Team will be European team pursuit bronze medallists Emily Kay, Danni Khan, Manon Lloyd and Emily Nelson.

Kay and Nelson also took home silver from the European championships’ inaugural women’s Madison, showing the kind of form that will stand them in good stead to face the world-class field due to line up in Glasgow.

Men’s endurance

World individual pursuit bronze medallist Andy Tennant makes a welcome return to the Great Britain squad, after impressing in the Revolution Series for Team Wiggins.

Kian Emadi, Ollie Wood and Mark Stewart complete the men’s endurance line up after strong performances in Paris at the European championships, including a team pursuit bronze and an agonisingly close fourth place finish for Wood in the points race.

Men’s sprint

The Senior Academy sprint line-up of Ryan Owens, Joe Truman and local-boy Jack Carlin will head to Glasgow as European silver medallists, after their impressive performance at their first elite championships on the back of being crowned under-23 European team sprint champions in the summer.

Truman, 19, rode his way into the men’s keirin final on the last day of the Paris championships, while Carlin won the 7-12 final.

Head coach Iain Dyer was delighted with the trio’s contribution to the team’s unprecedented medal haul and strong showing at the Parisian championships.

“We’ve got a reason to feel optimistic heading into the world cup, after the very strong performances from some of our younger riders,” he said.

“More than anything else it will be a good development opportunity for them all.”

Dyer added that Glasgow will be the perfect place for British fans to watch the stars of the future test their mettle.

“In the next four years we will hear more and more from these young guys as they mature and develop through the programme and by the time we get to Tokyo they could be household names.

“The Great Britain Cycling Team’s track squad is fortunate to be able to compete at major events on home soil on a fairly regular basis and it’s something which we’re all very grateful for.

“It is always an enjoyable experience and I know this team of young riders are looking forward to racing with the support of a home crowd behind them.”
