Sophie Capewell won her third title at the 2016 British Cycling National Youth and Junior Track Championships with victory in the sprint on Wednesday at the Derby Arena.

The junior rider, having already picked up titles in the 500m time trial and keirin, defeated Team Terminator teammate Lauren Bate-Lowe in straight heats for gold.

Glasgow Sprint’s Amber King took bronze with a two-nil win over Amber Joseph.

Britton takes double gold

After winning silver and bronze on the opening two days, Rhys Britton got his hands on two gold medals in the junior men’s kilo and Madison.

The Bush Healthcare rider completed four laps in 1.03.849 with Swinnerton Cycles’ Jake Stewart winning silver in 1.04.864.

Speedflex Race Team’s Hamish Turnbull took bronze in with a time of 1.05.112

Britton and Stewart teamed up in the Madison and edged out Matthew Walls and Reece Wood in a pulsating contest over 100 laps.

Trailing Walls and Wood by three points heading into the final sprint, Britton and Stewart won to take five points with Walls and Wood third, collecting two points.

That left both pairs on 17 points but as they had crossed the line first, the Bush Healthcare duo were crowned champions.

Ethan Hayter and Fred Wright rounded off the top three, for bronze, with 15 points.

Tidball on top in points race

William Tidball triumphed in the under-16 male points race, taking a lap and two sprint wins for 30 points overall.

Theo Modell was second on 29 points with Oscar Mingay third on 26 points, both riders having also gained a lap on the field.

Martin wins scratch title

Team Jadan-Weldtite’s Eve Martin won the under-16 female scratch race gold medal. Clifton CC’s Anna Docherty took silver and Sportcity’s Ellie Russell bronze.

The 2016 British Cycling National Youth and Junior Track Championships run from 1-5 August.
