Round five of the 2015/16 Revolution track series will see a battle royal of British pursuiting talent take to the boards of the National Cycling Centre on 2 January, as Team Wiggins takes on the Great Britain Cycling team in a head-to-head team pursuiting clash.
In the red, white and blue corner, Mark Cavendish will lead a Great Britain squad of Ollie Wood, Matt Gibson and Chris Latham, while Andy Tennant, Steven Burke, Jon Dibben and Owain Doull will represent Team Wiggins.
In the first track event of the Olympic year, fans will be treated to an epic contest, which will herald the return of Mark Cavendish to the track following a three-month layoff, the Manxman recovering from shoulder surgery after a crash at the Tour of Britain in September.
For Great Britain Cycling Team head endurance coach Heiko Salzwedel, the spectacle will be a great opportunity to assess the talent available to him with Rio just eight months away.
“The Revolution event on 2 January is symbolic as the first track race in Olympic year,” Salzwedel said. “It will be a good motivation for the riders at the start of 2016.”
Cavendish will relish the chance to stretch his legs on the track prior to his planned inclusion in the Great Britain Cycling Team for the final round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Hong Kong from 16-17 January.
“For the GB team including Mark Cavendish it will be a good test ahead of the Hong Kong World Cup,” said Salzwedel.
“For the Team Wiggins riders we want to see if they are on the right track – it will be quite interesting and we will be using it as a performance assessment to see how everyone stands up at this point in our preparations.”
The event will see Great Britain’s Laura Trott, Katie Archibald and Elinor Barker all in action in a programme that will also include elite men’s sprinting.
