Fourth gold for Capewell as 2014 British Cycling National Youth and Junior Track Championships conclude

Sophie Capewell claimed a fourth gold medal as the 2014 British Cycling National Youth and Junior Track Championships concluded on Friday.

The 15-year-old won the under-16 female 500m time-trial to complete her haul at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester.

The Lichfield City rider set a time of 36.344 seconds for gold with Eleanor Dickson of RST second and Sportcity Velo’s Lauren Bate-Lowe third.

Capewell already had national titles in the under-16 female sprint, junior female sprint and keirin to her name.

In the under-16 male 500m time-trial, Team Terminator’s Alex Jolliffe was fastest in 34.502 seconds.

Jack Plumley of Welwyn Wheelers was second with Joliffe’s teammate Frank Longstaff third.

Joe Truman won his second gold in the junior men’s sprint. The I-Team Cyclists' Club rider won keirin gold on Thursday and backed up the effort by going undefeated through the sprint competition.

He had qualified fastest in 10.910 seconds in the flying 200m. Jack Carlin of Spokes Racing Team took silver after a 2-0 loss to Truman.  Sportcity Velo’s Jack Payne got the better of Max Nethell of Performance Cycle Coaching for bronze.

There was also a second gold for RST’s Grace Garner, coming in the junior women’s pursuit as she defeated Great Britain teammate Manon Lloyd.

Garner completed the 2000m in 2:26.152 in the gold medal ride-off to Lloyd’s 2:31.655.

Garner qualified fastest in 2.27.891 with Lloyd, a double European champion on the track, nearly three seconds behind in 2:30.905.

Melissa Lowther (Matrix Fitness – Vulpine) narrowly beat Abigail Dentus (Team De ver) for bronze. Lowther finishing in 2.30.540 and Dentus 2.30.978.
