Event: Dawn til Dusk Challenge - 100

Event: 30th August 2009, Horsforth, Leeds

The stage is set for a new cycle event in Leeds over the August Bank Holiday Weekend. Charityadventure.org.uk have laid down the gauntlet and challenged riders to complete a circuit ride over a distance of either 100 miles or 100 km's in the Dawn till Dusk Challenge 100.

With the popularity of cycling increasing and the numbers of people travelling abroad this summer dropping, this is sure to be the choice of many this August Bank Holiday.

Charityadventure.org.uk are well known for their organisation of long distance rides for various charities across the UK. Having just returned from a mammoth cycle from York to Amsterdam and back with 50 novice female cyclists, raising over £25,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care, spokesperson Ginny Leonard says " we are extremely excited about this event. It's a totally new format for us and is one aimed at the more experienced cyclists as well as the recreational cyclist. It is open to riders from every discipline, we have Audax riders, local cycle club teams, mountain bikers and family teams already entered. Some of the riders are even doing the ride in fancy dress! We hope to have a great weekend and attract some positive attention for Leeds cyclists in general".

The route covers some gorgeous countryside from Horsforth in Leeds, up through Otley and Summerbridge to Ripon, over to Boroughbridge, as far as Sheriff Hutton for the 100 mile route and Harrogate back to Poole and finally Horsforth. As the name suggests the first teams will be leaving at dawn!

The Yarnbury Rugby club is the start and finish venue for the Dawn Till Dusk Challenge 100, with free camping laid on the night before and the night after for cyclists and their families. During the cycle day there is a family ride local to the club and various kids activities on the site. There is a social evening planned with a bbq and disco in the evening at the clubhouse.

As the organisers name suggests this is a charity event with 100% of the entry fees being donated to the charity chosen by one of the teams completing the challenge on the day. Entry fees are £100 per team; teams are up to four people.
