A new event on the sportive calendar and the first from the cycle shed of iCycle Events, the Folkes’ on the Hill sportive is a late season challenge that will test riders of all abilities.

What better way to end British summer time than to get on your bike after an extra hour in bed. With easy access from the M20, Folkestone Rugby Club sits on top of the North Downs and offers ample parking along with good facilities.

With two distances on offer the route take in quiet lanes, undulating terrain and typical Kentish scenery as they meander through the countryside and quaint villages. The MAXi route at 88 miles features the Cinque port of Sandwich early on, along with the Roman fort at Richborough.

Both routes tackle the climb to the top of the Devil’s Kneading Trough which offers up far reaching views across the Kent Weald before the long descent into the village of Wye.

The long slog up White Hill in the woods will sap the legs before the final feed station at Challock before a gentle descent into Charing. The village of Pluckley is reputed to be the most haunted in England and it’s worth moving quickly through here so that you don’t get spooked.

Heading south towards Newchurch the terrain flattens out through Romney Marsh for the run into Folkestone. After a short blast through the town it's onwards and upwards to tackle Blackhouse Hill.

Have you left enough in the tank to make the final climb to the finish and conquer the Folkes’ on the hill?
