Daisy Chain riders battle against the elements

Despite the challenging weather conditions at the weekend a group of hardy women took part in the first Daisy Chain event of the year.

What could have been a lovely scenic fun ride in mid Wales turned into a battle against the weather.

After a zig zag climb up onto the hill, the riders hit a strong headwind, but undaunted they battled round to the first feed station for a very welcome coffee and cake stop. Then, rejuvenated, continued round with less of a headwind but heavy going under tyre for what one rider described as “a fun but challenging ride.”

The riders chose a route distance to suit of between 18 and 35km, all off road on a variety of terrain, with a second feed stop before a fantastic descent to the finish.

Unbelievably everyone returned smiling from ear to ear, having survived and conquered the elements!

The next Daisy Chain event is in Shropshire on June 28 and the organisers are expecting to have summer weather conditions for that one!
