The Tommy Godwin Challenge Sportive returns for a second year but on a different date, 28 September 2014, and with revised routes.

Set up in 2013 to honour the Olympic medallist Tommy Godwin, all the profits from the British Cycling registered and insured event go to fund the Marie Curie Hospice in Solihull where Tommy spend his last few days in 2012.

The event is based at the hospice, where there are toilets and a café, and showcases the fantastic network of country lanes in the local Warwickshire and Worcestershire countryside. Once again Red Kite Cycles will be providing support.

There are two well signed routes, 30km for families and the less experienced cyclists and a more challenging 100km with feed station and timing. There are a couple of fords en route for the adventurous, but don’t worry there are alternative paths! With only a couple of climbs, it’s the ideal end of season event both for the experienced rider and those looking for their first sportive after a summer of training. GPX files are available to download from the event web site and route cards will made be available.

Tommy was a keen supporter of women’s cycling and women are especially welcome on either of the rides. The organisers are the founders of the Red Kite Cycles Belles on Bikes women’s cycling group and are happy to provide help and advice to any aspiring women riders.

Danni Khan, double junior world champion on the track, and member of Solihull CC of which Tommy was president said, "I was lucky enough to meet Tommy and he was a great inspiration to me. This event is a great way to recognise his achievements, continue the Olympic legacy and raise funds for a fantastic cause. Racing commitments permitting, I hope to be there."
