Somerset County Cricket Club was formed in 1875, following a victorious match at Sidmouth against the gentlemen of Devon. In 1881 the club established its home ground beside the River Tone in Taunton where it remains to this day. Over the years the club has been home to some of England's best cricketers, many of whom have played for England. Of those currently playing for Somerset, probably the most well known is the former England cricketer, Marcus Trescothick MBE who holds the record for the most One-Day International Centuries of any English player.

The Taunton Flyer is a new Sportive for 2014. There is a choice of two routes, the Dakota (100 km) or the Spitfire (54m). Starting from Taunton Racecourse, the routes will take you over the Blackdown Hills and down through the Culm Valley before returning past the wartime airfields of RAF Dunkerswell, RAF Upottery, and RAF Culmhead.
