Event: 21 April 2014

The wait is over: the Santini Cotswold Spring Classic is open for entries complete with around 2000m of climbing and three routes to choose from to test cyclists early in the season.

Organised by Velo Events, the Cotswold Spring Classic is a fully supported event in the tradition of the best European cyclo-sportives and Gran Fondos. Now in its sixth year the Santini Cotswold Spring Classic is seen by many cyclists as a true classic in the cycling calendar with riders being drawn to the challenge of the Cotswold hills from Belgium and northern France as well as across the UK.

Any calories that need burning off after too many chocolate eggs can be dealt with the Easter Monday date - 21 April 2014. With gradients approaching 20% in some parts of the three routes and more climbing than on the ascent of Mont Ventoux on the 160km route it is a great early season test.

“The Santini Cotswold Spring Classic has been growing in popularity each year we’ve run the event and it has been sold out for the past few years,” explains Andy Kirk of Velo Events. “Whilst the routes include some testing elements for experienced, medium and beginner cyclists one of the main reasons for the success is our approach to sportive events. We have been praised for the organisation, the quality of our feed stations and the general all round support we provide across all three of the route options.”

Last year’s weather also added to the mix as entrants coped with freezing temperatures and headwinds comparable to some of the Flanders events. This year riders can again choose from the 55km (340m of climbing), 100km (940m of climbing) and 160km (2000m of climbing) routes. There will be well-stocked feeding stations out on the road (one for the short and medium routes, two for the long route) stocked with a variety of food as well as first aid kits, spares and tools.

Details of the Santini Cotswold Spring Classic and entry online can be found via the web site (www.cotswoldspringclassic.co.uk). But be quick – Andy Kirk and his team have already received entries and rider numbers are limited to just 600 spaces.

To find out why the event is so popular check out some of the feedback from last year –

“The whole event was a joy with proper timing chips, great road signage (the best I've ever had on a sportive), great enthusiasm from all those involved in organising the event (the start / finish line team, those at signing on etc.) and a great route.” (Michael)

“Brilliantly organised, great food stop and well marked.”  (Heather)

“I've ridden a dozen or so sportives over the last couple of years and this was definitely the best value and best organised yet. A big thank you to you and the rest of your team for organizing it. Looking forward to the Autumn classic now.”  (John)
