Event: 11 May 2013
Location: Watton at Stone, Hertfordshire
Preview: Brendan McSherry

This 49 mile point-to-point starts at Watton-at-Stone and meanders the forgotten by-ways of Hertfordshire, Essex and Epping before dropping down the Lea Valley into the London Borough of Hackney. For a seasoned sportive rider this is a great sprint from country to city, for newcomers this is an excellent entry into the world of sportive riding.

Here’s some important information:

Tickets - are still available at only £25. Get ‘em here.

Transport News - Wouldn’t it be nice if a train company said something like “Hey cyclists! We know how you like to explore the great British countryside in the company of friends, well we’re gonna make it easy peasy for ya, no more shall you ride in groups of only four!”

Well, it would be nice, but in the absence of that happening, we will carry your iron steeds to Watton-at-Stone for you. All you’ve got to do to book a space for your bike is drop us an email to confirm and then meet us at Finsbury Park tube on the morning of the ride with £5 cash. We’ll take your bike to the cricket ground start point and you take the train. Easy peasy.

Hot showers, dinner and disco - We’ve secured the architecture award winning Hackney Marshes Centre, a beautiful modern facility on the legendary Hackney Marshes. Here you will find changing rooms and hot showers for men-folk and women-folk, free tea and coffee for riders and supporters, a free meal for riders, an award winning bar and roof terrace, and a disco! Disco! Disco!

What is a Sportive? Rough Rider produce safe, relaxing and beautiful supported cycle rides. Whether it’s your first ride outside of the city centre commute, or you are a seasoned sportive rider, all our routes our clearly sign posted, are safely managed and include feed stations that provide free nourishment and refreshment - on the Commuter Belt Classic, the feed station is at the end of the route. When you cross the start line you will trigger the timer which is triggered again at the finish. Times will be published on the day and available after the event but there are no prizes and the times will sorted by name not time.
