Hay on Wye Sportive
Event: 14 April 2013

The first Hay on Wye Sportive will take place from the picturesque town of Hay on Wye on Sunday 14th April.

The Sportive can be taken as a 35, 65 or 100 mile route. Taking riders through Herefordshire and Powys, these are sparsely populated counties and so the rides are in areas of quiet, unspoilt countryside and small villages.

The Sportive takes in some of the most glorious country roads in the Welsh/English borders with stunning views of the Black mountains and Brecon Beacons. As Hay is nestled in hills so it will be no surprise that the routes do involve some climbing!

The 65 and 100 mile routes concludes with a lovely long climb up the LLanthony valley and over Gospel Pass, the highest road pass in Wales. As the riders crest this beautiful and remote mountain pass so they are rewarded for their efforts with a wonderful few miles descending, back into Hay on Wye and the finish.

This event forms part of Hay BikeFest from April 12-14. This weekend of cycling events and activity includes on and off road rides, skills and bike maintenance workshops and other introductions to cycling.

There will also be cycling oriented stalls located round the town. If you want to stay and experience the whole weekend there is a wide range of accommodation available in and around the town with plenty of options for dining out catering for all tastes. For those participating in the Sportive there is a Pasta party on the Saturday night before the event.
