2013 Tour of Pembrokeshire
Published 8 November 2012

Now that the 2012 season is over, it’s time to start planning which events to take part in for 2013.
Nothing helps ease those winter training miles more than the prospect of one of the most scenic
sportives in the UK calendar, the Tour of Pembrokeshire, to look forward to.

The 2012 Tour of Pembrokeshire was a great success, with over 650 participants bathed in
Pembrokeshire sunshine over a revised route taking in more of the mountainous terrain in the north of the county with 50, 75 and 100 mile routes each encompassing higher climbs as their distances increased making the Tour suitable for a wide range of rider abilities.

In addition to this, a successful family ride was staged the following day in which many of the families of Tour riders who had travelled to the event got the chance go for an eight or 16-mile charity ride of their own.

Riders of the 2012 Tour said:

“Did the 50 mile ride - never done anything like this before so was quite nervous beforehand! Very proud to have completed the course and the day was just perfect with some stunning views. I was shocked at just how steep some of the hills were - my front tyre was lifting off the floor trying to get up some of them, but I did them all and really feel like I've achieved something now!” Rachel Thomas – 50 miles.

“Great venue and awesome ride, best sportive i have done! weather great (last year!! OMG) and views were stunning, Preseli hills=Epic, loved the 77 mile route! Nice touch through St Davids Cathedral, see you next year again.” Craige Goodson – 75 miles.

“The toughest sportive I've ridden. Some crazy steep climbs with no let ups on the technical descents. I didn't see a single other rider for 12 miles. Great views, great weather and friendly feed stations. Such a great feeling seeing the cathedral coming into view.” Andrew Wright – 75 miles.

“Fantastic event and stunning views. Best parts were the Preseli climb and the chain gang that I got in from Croes Goch to finish. Can you book the weather again for next year please?” Daron Herbert - 100 miles.

“We really enjoyed the family ride on Sunday, great to get the kids involved after they had a day at Whitesands while we were riding the Tour on Saturday. Hopefully the weather will be as perfect again next year.” Chris Ebsworth

Event organiser Peter Walker said “I have never enjoyed an event so much. I am extremely indebted to everyone who gave their time to run it and to all the riders who’ve sent such wonderful comments. Thank you; 2013 here we come.”

The 2013 Tour is set to provide more of the same, with some minor route changes to make even
more of the hills and views on offer in the north of Pembrokeshire for the 50, 75 and 100 mile
routes.

The 2013 Tour is to be held on April 27 on a Saturday giving riders a chance to make a weekend of the event with the family ride on the Sunday.

This year Sabbath are very kindly donating one of their titanium bikes as a prize for the Tour of
Pembrokeshire rider who raises the most sponsorship money for charity at the event, which will
start and finish from the wonderful Oriel y Parc venue in St David’s.

The Tour of Pembrokeshire is fast becoming one of the mustā€ride events in the sportive calendar, with a range of difficulty to suit both novice and seasoned sportive rider, coupled with the beauty of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park it’s set to grow in popularity for years to come.
