Wings for Life is the official charity partner of The Human Race Festival of Sport which takes place this weekend, 14th – 16th September 2012 in Marazion, West Cornwall.

Wings for Life aim to accelerate progress towards finding a cure for spinal cord injury and facilitate the development of technology to reduce the risk of such devastating injuries occurring, particularly during sport.

Taking place over three days, the Festival of Sport will see participants from across the country getting involved in activities such as cycling, triathlon, running and open water swimming. Combined with free beach sports (beach volleyball, kayaking, gig rowing etc.), there will be live music, children’s activities and locally-sourced food and drink for visitors to enjoy against the spectacular backdrop of St. Michael’s Mount (below).

You can find out all about the cycling elements of the festival here, including a Cycletta women's only sportive.

Matthew Adams of Human Race said of the partnership: “We are incredibly proud to be supporting such an inspiring charity and know that many of the runners, swimmers and cyclists taking part have been busy raising sponsorship – as well as doing considerable training – ahead of what promises to be a great weekend.”

The thousands of sports enthusiasts attending the Festival will be joined by Olympic gold medal-winning rower, Helen Glover. Glover, who grew up in Cornwall, won Team GB’s first gold medal of London 2012 with teammate Heather Stanning in the women’s coxless pairs. Her presence will undoubtedly inspire those attending to put in a golden performance and take on the individual challenges they have set themselves.

Speaking ahead of the event, Glover beamed when asked about the Festival’s location: “I grew up in West Cornwall and love coming down to the spectacular coastline around Marazion."

She continued: "The Games have been such a celebration of sport in the UK and I'm so looking forward to seeing people involved in sports of all activities in one stunning place, it should be a fantastic event".

Festival Passes are still available, with the entry fee including all of the entertainment going on at the Hub and two evenings of live music. Adult tickets cost just £20, it’s £10 for under 16’s and the weekend is free for those under 12.
