Event: 2 September 2012
Location: Marlow Sports Club Pound Land, Bucks

A new cycling event is being launched in the Chilterns with the objective of offering a challenging ride to both serious sportive cyclists and those less experienced riders bitten by the anticipated frenzy surrounding the Olympic Games.

Willi Moore, former Olympic Track cyclist, is now Course Director for the club’s first venture into organising a Sportive. The “Marlow Red Kite Ride” will be held on Sunday September 2nd with 50 and 100 mile events. He adds: “We wanted to appeal to a wide range of cyclists so those riding it will be able to see the beauty of the Chilterns without it being such a gruelling event.”

The longer route passes through the Vale of Aylesbury over some of the highest parts of the Chilterns including Christmas Common and into the Thames Valley.

The event will start and finish at the Marlow Sports Club, and organisers, the Marlow Riders Cycling Club, are keen to encourage both experienced Sportive riders and relative newcomers to the sport brought by the hoped for British success in the Olympics.

“Cycling For All” is the philosophy of The Marlow Riders, who are a relatively new club keen to offer cyclists of all abilities opportunities in the sport. Riders are associated with the Marlow Striders Running Club who have more than 25 years of experience organising events such as the Marlow Duathlon and the Marlow Half Marathon, now rated one of the top 10 half marathons in the country raising over £100,000 for charity.

The Red Kite Ride organisers promise two well sign-posted routes, three feed stations, full timing, ample parking at the start, showers at the finish and GPX routes to download before the event.

Entry is £25 and all net proceeds will go to the charities: Marlow Sports Club and Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.
