It’s been a while – over 9 months in fact - since we’ve seen sportive challenge rides in Britain on the scale of Wiggle Cheshire Cat which takes place at the end of this month in Cheshire. For many, ‘The Cat’ marks the start of Britain’s very own season of ‘spring classics’ – that is major sportives with large participation numbers taking place in some of the most picturesque regions.
This year’s Wiggle Cheshire Cat sees record breaking numbers of participants signing up to depart from the start line at Cheshire’s Crewe Alexandra Stadium HQ for one of the three route options. With some weeks to go yet entries are already over the 3,000 mark.
Director of Organisation, Geoff Saxon said: “We always look forward to our first big event of the year and feel somewhat privileged to be opening the season this way with such a large, prestigious and popular event – it’s Britain’s first super-sportive. With the Olympics and ‘the Cav effect’ 2012 is a particularly exciting year for cyclists and all of us associated with cycling and sport”
Wiggle Cheshire Cat takes place on the Sunday 25th March – the day the clocks go forward for British Summertime – as usual. Action kicks off from 8am at Crewe Alexandra football Stadium when riders are started by East Cheshire’s Worshipful the Mayor, Councillor Roger West. Medium and long option riders are expected to reach the famous climb of the Mow Cop Killer Mile from just before 9am until noon. Crewe and Nantwich’s ‘The Cat’ Radio broadcast live all day from the event HQ.
