Keen cyclists were offered the opportunity to enjoy a truly spectacular route around the most westerly and south-westerly peninsulas in Britain as they took part in the Lands End 100 CycloSportive on 16 October.

Perfect sunny weather greeted the close to 300 riders who set off on either the 100 mile or 100km route which showed off West Cornwall in all its glory.

Cornwall Council Community Leisure Officer Ceri Harvey said: “We had riders from all over the West Country taking part, including some from the Isles of Scilly and some from as far away as the Midlands. We have had some very positive comments from those who took part who particularly enjoyed what one rider described as one of the most stunning routes of any Sportive in the UK. We hope that this event will now be an annual event on the sportive calendar.”

A total of 129 riders finished the 100 mile route which saw riders cycle the coast road around West Cornwall taking in the most Westerly point (Lands End) and Southerly point (Lizard Peninsula) in the British Isles, before heading back to the North coast, through Hayle and back to St Ives.

A further 165 riders finished the 100km route along a similar route which followed the coast road to Lands End and part the way to Lizard Point and then cut across country to join the North coast road and then through Hayle and back to St Ives.

The event was organised by Cornwall Council Leisure Services in partnership with One and All Cycling Club. Information about next year’s event will be available soon at www.cornwall.gov.uk/landsend100.
