The Gran Fondo Eddy Merckx takes place on the 31st July 2011 and entries are still available through the website (www.granfondoeddymerckx.co.uk).
Set in the stunning surroundings of Cricket St. Thomas - riders friends and family can spend the day exploring the lakes and gardens on guided walks (with ticket prices reduced to just half price) or they can venture out into the surrounding countryside to explore the local attractions before coming back to welcome the riders home at the end of the day.
The Gran Fondo Eddy Merckx boasts a choice of two stunning routes through the best countryside in the South West - with options of 100 miles or 65 miles, a decision you don't need to make until you get to the split point on the day.
The entry fee includes access to the event village all weekend, pasta party for all riders on the Saturday, tons of free parking, a goodie bag full of freebies from the event partners and sponsors, chip timing, well stocked feed stations (provided by ZipVit sports nutrition), free post ride massage (provided by Naqi - sponsors of the professional Quickstep team), motorcycle outrider support, neutral service support (provided by Performance Cycles / Continental / Fulcrum) and free pasta for all riders after the event and much more.
The event will be filmed by Android Sport Video - with riders able to purchase copies of the hour long DVD after the event, and capture their ride with the great Eddy Merckx on film.
Using a combination of static and motorbike mounted camera's Android Sport Video will spend the day on the road capturing the Gran Fondo in all its glory - and we'll see exactly who takes on Eddy as we hit the first climb of the day! Hours of filming will then be edited down into a 60 minute DVD of the weekend, and along with the ride will include interviews with Eddy Merckx himself and a number of the riders taking part in the event.
