The London-Paris 2010 has sold out in a record 20 hours - signalling a new explosion of interest in high quality cycle events.

Riders from the UK, China, the United States, Australia, Hong Kong and Europe besieged the L2P website when registration opened on Monday (Nov 30th).

Director, Sven Thiele, said: "The web traffic was phenomenal. We thought it would take a month for the 350 places to be taken but we sold out in just 20 hours.

"I believe the huge level of interest in London-Paris 2010 indicates just how fast cyclosportive riding is expanding. The level of enthusiasm is unprecedented in our experience and I think we are well into a boom in cyclosportive riding."

Thiele's global marketing and events company, HotChillee, is now planning to launch a second European-based cycling challenge event. Full details will be announced in the New Year and the ride will be staged in France in September 2010.

London-Paris 2010 is the blue-riband of cyclosportives and is recognised as the closest the amateur rider can get to the Tour de France experience. The ride covers 550km in three days with a rest day in Paris. The Daily Telegraph recently ranked the event as one of the world's top 25 participation events, alongside the London and New York marathons. The event has also been named in the top ten of adventure events for women.

Double Olympic medallist, Rebecca Romero, and ex-professional rider, Magnus Backstedt, have already signed up to ride in 2010. Other star riders will be announced in January.

Any riders wishing to join the L2P 2010 reserve list for places should register their interest on the L2P website at www.londres-paris.com.
