Highclere Sportive Results Available
On a day when there was sheet rain, thunder and lightning north, west and east of the M4, Highclere Castle MagnifiCat was blessed with a window of good weather for most of the day, as this photo taken by Phil O'Connor clearly shows. Nearly 1000 riders came to Highclere Castle and enjoyed a great day of cycling both out on the courses and within the castle grounds.
Fantastic support was provided by Mavic both on the Saturday at Registration and throughout the event both at the start and during the ride. Significant overnight rain had washed the notorious Hampshire flint out onto the roads, but the Mavic mechanics professionalism kept the riders on course to complete the challenge. The excellent support provided by the Police for this event was further demonstrated as early in the event a section of arrows were taken down a number of times.
David Bayliss who rode 126 mile MagnifiCat had this to say:
"I would just like to say what a fantastic day I had at your event, thank you to you for putting on such an event, the whole day just was first class in every department, everything possible was catered for and made easy and simple from driving in to Highclere, signing on, the route, the feed stations, marshals, the police and Mavic- I could not fault the entire day.
Please pass on a thank you to the police and guys from Mavic, and also the people at the feed stops they were awesome; especially the lady at the last stop at Hannington pouring with rain, she had no coat on yet still a smile on her face and she poured my drink in my bottle. Cycling needs those kinds of people and the guys at the finish who took off the timing chips; it's the little things of detail that stand out. Thank you."
The KiddiCat ride within the castle grounds has been a big success for those families taking part and we will be looking to encourage more families to be part of this event next year.
We are delighted to tell you that significant funds have been raised for the Fire Fighters Charity and other Charities as a result of your personal efforts. We will be publishing the results on our Charity page on the website. If you have raised donations please let us know and we can add your donation.
Thank you to everyone for riding safely and responsibly in weather affected conditions on all the courses. Feedback from Hampshire Police is very good.
Thank you for the excellent constructive feedback you have given us. This year we have learnt some important lessons to improve ride route safety standards. British Cycling and Hampshire Police will be working with us to improve what is already a top notch proven cycle challenge for all levels of cycling abilities.
The final results, photos and e-certificates are now all available to view and download at www.cyclegb.co.uk, so all that remains is to thank everyone for coming this year and we really look forward to seeing you again, with your families and friends, on Sunday 13th June 2010.
See you there!
